Today is the special day of a wedding. Prepare yourselves for a fun day, for good food and good drink and of course traditions, folk music and folk dance.
The wedding traditions in Romania are different, depends on the region. We choose a folklore wedding in Sibiel as a very nice experience. Together with the groom and the god-parents, they take the bride from home and the dowry she received from her parents. After the religious ceremony (which we will skip), the wedding party gets together at the Village Pavilion where the party goes on. The food is homemade, organic and specific to this part of Romania. Day 5, Wednesday, 26th of July 2023: Sibiu – Transfagarasan Road – Bucharest

Serve a great breakfast and get ready for the most spectacular Road! This trip couldn’t end better!

Transfagarasan: Probably the Best Road in the World.

This is the best road in the world – said Jeremy Clarkson in a Top Gear episode while comparing it to a race track. Still, Transfagarasan offers so much more besides the amazing driving experience, connecting the south of Romania with Transylvania, going straight across the massive Fagaras Mountains through five tunnels and winding roads that needed 6,500 tons of dynamite to be built.
Transfagarasan is 90 km long and reaches an altitude of 2,042 meters, being the second-highest road in Romania after Transalpina that has the maximum altitude of 2,145 meters. It is a veritable road from the clouds, but with a history that has much to do with the communist regime and its obsession with oversized projects. The road was built during Ceausescu’s time, by his order.

Another top attraction from the Transfagarasan is Balea Lake, an iconic glacial lake located at an altitude of 2,034 meters, close to the highest point of the road. It’s the main resource for creating a unique attraction in Romania, the Ice Hotel. Every year, the hotel is built from ice blocks taken from Balea Lake, and every year it’s fully booked before it starts to snow in Romania.

At the end of the road it is the famous Poienari Citadel which can be admired from away (it is closed to the public for renovation). This was the other home of Dracula..

In the second part of the day, we will visit Curtea de Arges Monastery, built between 1514-1517 years. The church was rebuilt to its actual shape in 1885, after a devastating fire. We will admire the interior columns (12) representing the 12 apostles, the relics of different Saints and the tombs of King Ferdinand, Carol I and of queens Maria and Elisabeth. Here you will learn about the myth of the artisan Manole.

Arrive in Bucharest in the evening.

Accommodation in Bucharest to a 4* hotel, centrally located. End of the tour.

Day 6, Thursday, 27th of July 2023: Bucharest – departure.

End of tour.
